Simplest way to explain it is basketball with sort of soccer/hockey nets and no dribbling. You are trying to flick the ball into a net, and a goalie and a team is trying to stop you. That is the short of it. Google for more.

Note: I've used this answer before:
Truthfully, forms of handball r considered to be the oldest form of sport played with a ball & a wall. There r three different varieties including 1-wall, 3-wall & 4-wall each can be played as singles or doubles. It has the same basic rules as racquetball, however that is because racquetball was derived from handball. For many it is considered to be more challenging than racquetball because to become skilled u r required to use both sides of ur body (which is harder than it sounds). In fact u get such a big workout u can expect to burn over 800 calories per hour when playing. This is one of the reasons handball was named the best all-around conditioner by the president is council on physical fitness.
The governing body for the sport is the United States Handball Association, which helps to sanction over 100 tournaments per year & oversees the national tournaments. The Handball Hall of Fame is located in Tucson, Arizona & it serves as the HQ for the USHA. More information on handball can be found at ushandball.org.
Also in terms of where do u play since there r several different types of handball there r different areas to play. If ou r interested in 1-wall or 3-wall handball contact ur local parks & rec department to see if any of ur parks have public courts if not suggest they build some. If u want to play 4-wall phone local fitness clubs with racquetball courts & ask if any of them have a strong following of handball players. If u become a member of the USHA u can contact their HQ & ask for players in the area.
