Yeah Steve S it is a real sport part of the reason l asked this / is l wanted to see if anybody was from Croatia, Spain, Germany or other TEAM Handball playing country. The sport of team handball played indoors has been around since 1947 goes back to turn of 18th century when it as played outdoors. Game originate in Denmark, Germany and Sweden and is unknown in the USA and other English speaking countries.
They have pro teams in European leagues where some of the best players make over $100,000 USD not as much as top European Basketball or Football players. It has a World Championships every 4 years and has been apart of the summer Olympics since 1972.
In North America you would have to go to Greenland to find it in a country where it is popular whole Scandinavian connection. USA does have national handball team last time they made it was 1996 only because we where the host country.
For those that know about the NBA read this story about Dirk Nowitzki and his Dad being a pro handball player. Sport is very popular in Germany. Dirk would have been a good handball player had he not chosen basketball (also not as rich l should add) as the same athletic attributes come into play. Good vertical jumping ability , speed and goodcoordination with catching a grapefruit size ball.

they are pretty solid offensively, they have a good chance. l would not bet on them though just because they've won several international competitions.

l do not follow team handball leagues, but l can tell u that l am from Canada, & l DO know what team handball is!

l played for 3 years in high school & it is an excellent sport. l played goal & pivot.

To the poster who bashed team handball & olympic sports. l would rather watch & play handball anyday than basketball.

And l did not know handball was an olympic sport actually. l will have to watch a few games on television next month! (If they even air it :P)
